Blog 13: Answer 1
(1) What is answer 1 to your EQ? The best way to become a successful surgical technician is to develop an operating room routine.
(2) What possible evidence do you have to support this answer?
(2) What possible evidence do you have to support this answer?
- In most of the books i've read they state that surgical technicians must work efficiently at a fast pace. When in the Operating room it is literally someone else's life or death so mistakes aren't acceptable.
- In a book i've been reading by the name of Surgical Technology for the Surgical Technician.
- My Father who has 23 years of experience in this profession.
- In another book called Techniques for the Operating Room.

Blog 12: Service Learning
- Where are you working for your service learning? Mission Community Hospital
- Who is your contact? My father, Byron Mendez
- Summarize the services you have performed to complete the 10 hour requirement
- cleaned instruments, wrapped them, sterilized instruments, cleaned a scope, and watched a hysterectomy surgery.
- How many hours have you worked? 10hrs.

Blog 11: Third Interview Questions
EQ: What is the best way to be a successful surgical technician?
1. What are common mistakes, if any that occur in the operating room?
2. How do you prevent these mistakes from happening?
3. In the research I have done, it says that leaving instruments in the patient is the most common, would you agree or disagree?
4. What do you believe is the best way to be a successful surgical technician?
5. In your opinion what would you say is the definition of a successful surgical technician?
6. When taking care of a pediatric patient, is it more difficult than an adult?
7. My answer is to develop an operating room routine, would you agree or disagree?
8. Do you have an operating room routine you follow?
9. When a pediatric patient goes through the OR are they usually very nervous? if so, how do you help them calm down?
10. When do you believe is a surgical technician truly successful in your eyes?

Blog 10: Self Reflection
(1) How do you think you are doing so far in your senior
project and why? AE, P, AP, CR, or NC because i have been falling behind, i'm trying to catch up but it's becoming a challenge.
(2) What one thing do you think you have done well on and why? I think i'm improving on my research, because i'm beginning to go back and finished unfinished articles.
(3) What is one thing you would like to improve on and why? My science project and my independent tasks. I just don't know how to go about them fully.

Blog 8: What I've Learned
1) What have you learned how to do since you started working on your senior project?
I have learned that you need to really not fall behind. I still haven't learned whether i really do want a career in this field or not yet, i'm not hating this profession but im not loving it yet. I am learning techniques they use in the operating room. i've learned how instruments are cleaned and then sterilized. i learned how to wrap the instruments before being sterilized.

2) Post evidence of this accomplishment. It can be in the form of a picture, video, document, etc..
3) What research helped you to do this and how?*
my father helped me a great deal i had also learned how to wrap the equipment and the process through the book called Surgical Technology for the Surgical Technologists

Blog 9: Science Fair Proposal
1. What is your hypothesis?
If a surgical technologists tool is sterilized using the best method then, it will have the least amount of bacteria after the process.
2. Identify the dependent (produced), independent (manipulated) and control variables in your hypothesis.
Dependent- Amount of bacteria
Independent - Sterilization process
Control - Unsterilized instruments
3. What is the connection between your science fair project and your senior project EQ?
My senior project is on surgical technologists and part of their career is sterilizing hospital equipment, so I'm trying to figure out if the sterilization process they use now is the most efficient.
4. How will you perform the experiment? Include the equipment you plan on using.
my dad will be bringing me about 10 of the same tools, i will be unsterilizing them the same way then I, will be using agar to grow the bacteria left on the sterilized equipment to show which sterilization process has the least bacteria left on them. I will be learning how to measure bacteria through researching the best way to measure bacteria. I will also be researching why the best sterilization process is the best.
After each sterilization process i will be swabbing the instrument, then placing the swab sample taken into the agar, for each instrument. I will then wait until bacteria begins to form in order to compare which way is the most effective, in sterilizing equipment.
5. Which category will your project be listed under? (For a full list of categories, go to the iPoly Physics webpage, then to the Science Fair tab.)
